The National Information Technology Center (NITC) established in 2002 in line with IT Policy 2000
is the secretariat for HLCIT.
Executive Director of NITC has
the primary responsibility to implement or get
implemented the policy and the plan on information
science and information technology, monitor and
supervise the same and regulate the activities carried
out by the private sector and submit reports on these
activities to the council.

OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE To build the knowledge-based society by supporting
to establish knowledge based institutions and
industries.
To promote and develop information Technology,
making it accessible to the general public and
increasing meaningful employment.
FOLLOWING ARE THE MAIN FUNCTIONS ENTRUSTED TO NITC
Secretariat for HLCIT.
Execute IT plans and Programs directed by HLCIT.
Render Assistance in all kinds of computer related
services of Nepal Government. Also render
assistance in designing, updating and operating
websites of all the agencies of
government of Nepal and serve as data depository by collecting
all types of data at the national level.
Act as data bank of Information and assist in
computerization of records in government offices and
in developing and expanding contents.
Act as a regulator for the healthy development of
Information Technology.Arrange for coding and
Standardization required to bring about uniformity
with respect to information Technology and implement
and monitor it.
